Due to launch on July 29th, Windows 10 is the latest offering from industry leader, Microsoft. The company has already sent out invitations to those currently using Windows 7 and 8.1, to reserve a completely free upgrade. This invitation can be found on your task bar on the bottom right hand side of the screen. So what exactly can you expect from the upgrade and is it worth making the switch?
Shaped by Windows Insiders
Windows 10 has been shaped by actual Windows users. Known as the ‘Windows Insider Program’, it is made up of fans around the world just like you. They get to see and use the operating system in its very early stages. They then use their experience and give feedback to improve it until the software is ready to launch.
Introducing a brand new browser
One of the main changes made to Windows 10 has been the introduction of a brand new browser. Known as Microsoft Edge, the browser aims to give you an overall improved experience. You will now be able to:
- Write your own notes directly onto a webpage and choose to share them with others.
- Instant key action access when Cortana is enabled.
- Reading view which enables you to read web pages quickly and easily.
- Shows you content that matters to you. The customized approach provides a more personal feel and is a lot simpler to use.
A friendly, personal welcome
When you first log on to your computer, ‘Windows Hello’ will welcome you by name, as well as with a friendly smile. You will now be able to log into your account without a password. It uses biometric authentication which recognises your iris, face or finger. This provides a more secure log in experience.
Your own personal assistant
One of the most impressive additions to Windows 10 is the improved Cortana – your own personal assistant. You can use Cortana to answer any questions you may have or to set reminders for things you don’t want to miss. The assistant is also able to find things on your computer. She actually becomes smarter over time as she learns more about your computer and internet use.
